Bluetooth Audio Tours at Maidstone Museum

Blackbox-av has come up with a solution to an audio tour requirement at Maidstone Museum in Kent.

The museum was founded in 1858 and now houses over 660,000 artefacts and specimens in an Elizabethan Manor House.

It has created a series of podcast audio tours aimed at younger visitors and which are available for download from the museum's website. Not all of the visitors, however, would be aware of these podcasts until they arrived at the museum, so a cost-effective solution was required that would enable the podcasts to accessible on site.

Blackbox-av suggested using a Bluetooth Interactive based around a touchscreen kiosk beside the reception desk. The company's Research and Development team were given the project and in just two months created and installed a brand new and innovative Bluetooth interactive software package on a modified touchscreen kiosk system.

Visitors who may have missed website downloads at home can therefore still download them quickly and simply into their Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones within the museum.

For visitors without mobile phones, Blackbox-av has subsequently added an alternative USB download capability so that the reception staff can download the tours onto very inexpensive MP3 players. These are available for purchase from the reception desk.
